It's 3 am and I am starting my day, we are extremely busy, so I start with some coffee and weather on the TV and begin listening to previous night phone messages.  If I am going to get any sleep at all I have to turn down the phone volume and trust people can read website and post like this to explain why we close shop around 9 or 10pm unless transportation request for later where made in advance. 

First sip of coffee is always the best but then the euphoria is dashed listening to the 1st phone message .

"You mother ____ , I'm here and I need to get home and you stupid____ , ..." beep.

2nd unheard message at 1045pm (listed as restricted)

"I want a ride brother, I'm in Mt Vernon by that store with the blue roof."

3rd unheard message at 1215am

"Um, da #@#@, 7....f__you".

4th unheard message at 130am

" I need a ride next Thursday..."

5th unheard message at 200am

"If you don't pick me up im gonna kick your ___".

6th unheard message at 215am

"I'm looking for a ride in Brooklyn NY," (just a note we are in Skagit, Washington state).

7th unheard message at 245am

" I've called 8 time and been waiting 2 hrs you pile of S___, I will never use your cab company again ".

And that is to differing degrees 7 days a week

Driving a cab is one of the most 

dangerous jobs a person can have.   You are picking up strangers and turning your back on them while you concentrate on driving. If your passenger has nefarious intentions you would not know until it was too late. So I am sorry if I've misjudged you But I wanna live too! I have been driving a cab for over 10 years and I have honed my skill in reading people both over the phone and in person this enables me to stay safe what people don't realise They are telling me everything I need to know in the 1st few words out of their mouth . Everything is taken into account. Your patterns of speech your inflexions Your tone your cadence An attitude. All these things help me determine whether I want to have you behind me while I drive or not.
