Is happy to get you where you're going safely.
In a continuing effort to provide a safe environment for both passengers and drivers, Quick Cabs is temporarily altering time and area of service. We keep a mindful eye on the increase of local activities that directly impact that safety we take very seriously, such as health and security for all concerned. Our services needs to be very flexible so when the numbers of COVID-19 or crime rise we may limit times and pick up areas that are associated with those increases.
Hopefully by working together we will all soon return to a normal safe and health environment.
We are in this together Skagit.
Thank you for reading about Quick Cabs of Skagit co. Updates.
I'm sure a lot of you have noticed that we have had no choice but to increase prices. I had predicted a couple of years ago that this was going to be coming in the future and it certainly has as we all can feel the pain at the pump.
Our dispatcher is very cautious and selective. 30% of all calls and 50% of all walk ups are customers who are dangerous, verbally abusive, and physically abusive, no shows, thieves, robbers, degenerates. Our dispatcher is very cautious and selective. 30% of all calls and 50% of all walk ups are customers who are dangerous, verbally abusive, and physically abusive, no shows, thieves, robbers, degenerates. That is 3 out of 10 over the phone that the dispatcher has to determine who they are. There are some indicators that help with our decision making to send a cab or not, One is, If you don't have a phone, preferably cell phone (it is 2020) then we can not sent a cab. When you have someone else call for you such as a bar or restaurant, it is not that persons responsibility to keep track of where you are and we have no way of getting back in touch with you. Another is geographical, we know that there are areas that are statistically higher for the above negative impact on our drivers and those statistics change during the time of day, so we choose to not service certain areas at all and to not service certain areas depending on the time of day, mostly at night or in the dark. For example, Sedro Woolley is about 10 miles from our office , you have a 75% chance by the time you get there the person who called for a cab will not be there, they will be drunk, verbally or physically abusive or attempt to run off first stop sign close to where they wanted to go. That percentage goes up to 90% after 8 pm which is why we do not service Sedro Woolley city limits after 8pm, unless you are a prior customer in good standing. There is no reason that a cab driver who is just trying to make a living should be verbally abused, talked to in a condescending manner or sexually assaulted or harassed. There cab fare of $3.50 a mile does not give you that right. These kinds of things happen all the time and these people are banned from using Quick Cabs service in the future and are ejected from the vehicle the minute it is safe to do so, there are no second chances. Some of the other concerns may not be geographical but specific locations such as hospitals. The places that we go to for help when we most need it is 64% chance that one we are called to a hospital regardless whether its for picking up a patient or staff member that the person will not be there when we arrive , which is a waste of the drivers time and potential to make money elsewhere.
All of these factors have to be taken into consideration when the dispatcher is on the phone and making the determination on whether or not to send a cab. So please don't be upset if you are recommended to use another cab service... We cannot stay in business to serve the good people of Skagit county and visiting out of towners if we are chasing our tails and surviving the abuse of the bad, irresponsible and criminal 30%.

What does flat rates and minimums mean?
Flat rates are given to passengers who discuss ahead of time with the dispatcher or driver and use our service in the past and maintain a good service record a fare that is from point A to Point B only (no stops)
Minimums are one time fares to out of area destinations. For Example.
Our office and cruising area is Burlington and Mt. Vernon. Do to the drivers time and fuel cost if a passenger was to want to be picked up at the Swinomish Casino (which is 15 mi. West and taken to Anacortes (which is 20 mi. West) the passenger would be charged to furthest flat rate instead of the 5 mi. that the passenger would actually be in the cab. Allowing the driver to recoup the cost of return travel.

If I have stops to make will my cab wait for me?
Of course, we be happy to wait, when are vehicles are stopped, like when in traffic or parked our meters automatically go into wait time which is only .42 cents a minute. Although, it may be cheaper if you are going to be gone long to call us to come back.
Why can't I get a cab to come pick me up when I call for one?
A cab driver's job can be very dangerous, a local cab driver was recently robbed shot and killed. In addition to being very observant of a passenger needs, cab driver also needs to be vigilant to stay safe. Our first line of safety is our dispatcher, David has been driving and dispatching cabs for many years and has developed a sixth senseses about peoples personalities and callers who maybe rude, potential no shows or possibly dangerous. How does a dispatcher make these determinations over the phone. Believe it or not , the taxi business is just that, a business and are providing a valuable service. That is why I am surprised that when people call needing a cab they act a fool over the phone. Laughing, not knowing pick up address, indicating they already called another cab, ill mannored or unintelligible makes our conversation over the phone a very short one.
What if lost or forgot something in your cab?
We clean and check our cabs at the end of each shift and you would be surprised at what we find. We have a lost and found located in our office located 917 Lincoln St Mt. Vernon, WA. 98273
Why does a taxi cost so much?
Although QUICK CAB is one of the least expensive taxi/cab services in the area, we have to walk a tight rope between paying the bills and keeping rates as low as possible. So where does your money go?Commercial insurance $7000 a year.Fuel is about $17,000 a year per vehicleMaintenance per vehicle a year about $3500Phones and radio and meter per vehicle a year $1500Office rental and vehicle storage per year $12,000Drivers pay is what's left over, not including tips.
Why is there a minimum charge when going to some locations? I'm often asked this question by customers with a tone of discussed. I will try to explain this as simply as possible, as an example a phone call comes in from a passenger in Sedro Woolley who wants to go a mile down the road. Since Quick Cabs is based in Mt, Vernon, this cab going to Sedro Woolley would take about 25 minutes depending on weather, traffic and etc.. So that is 25 minutes there and 25 back of driver and vehicle are out of service, additionally, the fuel that is used about $2.00 and the lease fee the driver pays for insurance, maintenance and etc. is about a dollar. So, for an hour to accommodate this out of town passenger on a short trip of $5, driver has to subtract $3 and in essences makes $2 for hour work. So to adjust for this incredible loss of pay a minimum fee is assigned, for example to Sedro Woolley is $15 min in city limits. That means once in the cab you can go up to 5 miles before you have to pay 1 cent over $15..
If you need to cancel a taxi/cab
PLEASE JUST CALL AND CANCEL ASAP IF YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES CHANGE.Be sure that you need a taxi for a ride. Often times, surprisingly, someone will call for a cab ride because a friend or family member was supposed to give a ride to somebody and were a little late and they call for a ride. When their ride does show up 5 minutes late, instead of calling to cancel the taxi they let the poor taxi driver go miles out of his way missing other fares only to find no one waiting to be picked up. This stunningly inconsiderate act happens to all cab companies several times a day. Unfortunately, for the person who called and failed to cancel the cab companies all keep records of all call for service and there disposition. Once you have been placed on "no service list", often cab companies won't answer your phone call, So, please don't burn your bridges with cab companies. One day you will need a ride when car breaks down or other wise stranded.
Thing to keep in mindHide and seek is a great game that we play with our kids but when time is money searching for a taxi passenger who is supposed to be one place but found totally different place takes time and money from the driver. Often, we will get a call from a person needing a ride and they need a ride from a bar or restraint, which we are happy to do. unfortunately, sometimes the person needing the cab doesn't keep an eye out for the cab but instead goes back to eating or drinking and makes the cab driver look for them. We are happy to call you on the cell phone and let you know your taxi has arrived but often with background noise it is very hard to hear. A lot of times your wait person is asked to call a cab for you and when we call back another wait person answers and know nothing about the request for a cab. The cab darter will often go inside and try to locate the passenger but with sometimes limited parking its hard to do.We are called Quick Cab for a reason, are average wait time is 12 to 15 minutes, so when calling for a pick up please keep an eye open for our arrival and other eye on your phone. Finally, be kind to you driver and dispatcher. They are doing there best to get to you quickly and your destination safely. Very Often, we get passengers that are verbally abusive and expect that because we are in the service industry, and they have always treated waitresses, bank teller, grocery clerks and other service people with sarcasm and contempt. We respectfully want you to know Quick Cab drivers and dispatcher will not tolerate ill matters of any kind. We want you to have a great and fun time when you with us. when you read cab drivers stories will give you an idea of what a cab drivers day is like and although we find it to be the best job in the world, it can be dangerous and hostel. Thank you for using Quick Cab.
One of the requests I get from my passengers while in traffic is to regal them tales from memorable or shocking cab rides that I have had. I don't have to think very long or hard as it seems like the latest and greatest seems to have happened the previous day. So I decided to share with you the highlights. I will use no names to protect the innocent.....ME,...because the last word I want to hear is "I read what you wrote about me".As a cab driver for several years I have seen plenty of shenanigans from behind the wheel of my cab. Some of these stories are relied to me by other drivers and when you say to yourself "now I've seen it all!" Something comes along to top it. I'll update these remembrances as I have time. I think I will labile these so easier for me to list and the readers to find.
Way too much to drink, smoke or and etc..,
As you may guess, picking up passengers from the local public houses (pub) is a daily occurrence. Often we are called by the bartenders or wait staff who in their professional opinion can tell when a customer is having a good time and when the good time has had them. These folks we pick up from the bars are in various stages of smashed. One of my particular favorites was 3 woman that a bar staff member brought out to the cab and tossed into the back seat, with a suffocating smell of alcohol and I as the driver was told by one of two staff that accompanied them out "their going to Sedro Woolley". As I drove toward Sedro I could hear giggles and snorts from the back seat of the van, as I grow closer to the city limits things became much quieter in the back of the van. As I checked my rearview mirror and could see 3 heads all tilted to the right in an unconscious state. "Where are we going ladies?" No answer. "Hello, where do you want me to drive you to?" Silence. I called the bar where I had picked them up and asked if they knew a more sacrifice address for these ladies and all I was told was that they came in very drunk and Sedro was all that could be understood between slurs. I Yelled louder and louder to get at least one of their attention with zero luck. So what are my options, I'm not putting my hands on them to try to wake them nor my hands in their purses to look for identification, There was one choice, off to the police station, I can imagine the cops spend a great deal of there time going out and finding drunk people and now they are having them delivered, so I was a very welcome sight, not. I explained that they wont wake up and that they where talking when they got in, conveniently, the fire dept. was next door and was summonsed. Upon there arrival, the EMT checked the passengers and although very intoxicated seemed ok by fire department and where able to get them to answer some questions, although where they where going wasn't one of them. The Police took over and found ID in their purse and told me "take them here". Back to Burlington, short distance from where I picked them up. Once we arrived at the address obtained by the police, you guessed it the three where passed out again and no waking them. There where no lights on in the house (of course it was 1:45 am) and I didn't even know if any of the ladies lived there. "9-1-1 what is your emergency", what else could I do? While I waited listening to the snoring and staring at the ever raising taxi meter, I was suddenly struck by a new sound, puking. To wrap this story up, 1 passenger taken to hospital, 1 taken to jail for trying to take a swing at me for asking to be paid and last one slide into the house during all the commotion and turned out the lights and wouldn't answer the door. So, bottom line, I spent rest of the night cleaning inside of cab. My pay for the evening was minus $120.( fuel, cleaning supplies and vehicle lease).
3's a crowd
Criminal factorWhile driving cab I have come across folks who are looking to sell me thing, once in a while its something good and raises an eyebrow. One such time I picked up a man and woman at a local drug store. Once inside the cab I listen as the conversation between them continued from before I arrived, how they were in financal straights and where were they going to get the money. Very often these conversations in the back seat are carried on for my benifit, I slow the cab down and asked the very important question (at least to the driver) "do you guys have the money for this cab ride?" They relied yes we do, then went on to explain that they needed $100 and had a 60 inch LCD TV that they wanted to sell to get the money and did I know anyone who would be interested. I know a good deal when I hear one and I inquired further as to age and condition, I was told that when we got to their destination I could see for myself. It was very dark upon our arrival and the male passenger got out of the cab and ran up a very dark street in a country neighborhood. I asked the female passenger who remained in the back seat counting out change to pay the cab fare, "where is he going?, her reply was "to go and get the TV". I told her that I thought I would go inside and see the TV, Isn't heavy? She assured me that it was very thin and very light wieght, While I continued the conversation with her I saw a dark figure running down the street carrying a large TV dragging cables and cords behind it. I rolled down my window as the man aproached and in the background I can hear a male voice ylling "that's my TV!". Before I can ask if the man at my window had stollen the TV, he drops it on the ground and it shatters. At this point the man that was holding the TV looks behind him in the direction of a now barely visable person yelling about his TV and runs to the other side of the cab and dives into a thick bushes along a hill on the side of the road. Immediatly followed by the woman in the back seat jumping out of the cab and joined her friend running through tall bushes. Arriving shotly there after the yelling man is in my face screaming "I'm gonna kill you", I tried to assure him that I wasn't involved and just a cab driver who dropped two people off, "what people?" he yelled. I replied "they ran in the bushes", he then looks at me strangly and said "sure they did" and he attempts to try and drag me from the cab and why I always have my car door locked , I put the cab in gear and sped away.robbed
Catch all A recent call requesting a cab to a local senior living facility, upon arrival a elderly woman who I would guess was in her mid 80's slowly shuffled out to the cab and greeted me with a "Hello sonny". She was very nice and kindly and our conversations where ones that you would normally had, she told of how the area had changed, how she lived in the valley her whole life, that her husband of 50 years had recently put her in the retirement facility he could have affairs at their home. I didn't think much of the comments especially since was stated in such a calm ladylike manor. Upon arrival of a very nice country home, my passenger asked to please wait and she would be right back. I could see an elderly gentleman quickly shuffle to the door in an attempt to block his wife from entering but his wife forced the half open door open by wedging her body into the gap. I was strunned and as you continue to read I will refer to being in a no win situation, I could head the old gentleman yelling "help my taxi driver, help me", as I constipated my options I found myself slowly turning up the radio. I continues watching unable to look away as I could see my passenger present a broom and start chopping wood on her husband, At this point I felt ok this is getting serious and reached for my phone to call 911 when my passenger came out of the house heading toward the cab, she no longer had the broom in her hand so my anxiety (and flash backs of my own childhood) decreased. The elderly woman got back in the cab and said "I'm sorry I took so long deary, you can take me back" , again kindly small talk took place between the two of use then once we arrived at our starting point, she paid me and bid me a good day.MongoTrip to MtCasino
The conversations I find it's part of my job as a cab driver to be pleasant, friendly and to try and knowledgeably participate in conversations my passengers may want to have (almost like I work on tips). I try my best to keep the conversations in "the here and now", but on slow nights I will follow the rabbit down the rabbit hole just to see where its going. Case in point the gentleman I picked up one evening who proclaimed upon getting into the back seat, he needed to go to a drug store to get some first aid supplies. As I pulled away I ask what I feel was a logical retort to his statement and asked "did you hurt yourself?" My conservatively dress, middle aged man who I had picked up from a very affluent neighborhood stated "I was just abducted by aliens AGAIN and there are always a few bumps and bruises when they return me to my home.

Pitfalls of the taxi cab business are many. The majority of our passenger have no idea how thin of an opperating budget cab companies are always mindful of , see the FAQ link about business costs.
So, when our dispatcher take people phone call request for cabs, we make a great effort to sniff out a number of dangerous, people that cancel , people who are not going to be at pickup location and etc. All of which will put a good company like Quick Cabs out of business. So please keep that in mind the next time you call for a cab that are dispatchers are listening for giggling in the background directions that don't make sense people who have called multiple cab companies. We keep the extensive records on all of our calls and make notes accordingly if you've been a good passenger with us in the past we will just simply say we are on our way in a very short period of time if on the other hand you have a history of canceling not showing up or being otherwise dangerous you may get the voicemail indicating that you have been placed on a limited-service basis if we do call you back we will take your past actions into consideration which will slow our response to you and affect your cost.
Additional things that are dispatchers look for over the phone people who seem to be elusive people who want to be picked up in non-disclosure places buy a bush by it telephone pole with no address people who are not using their own phone to call from, I mean it's 2018 everyone should have a phone so when you have a bar or grocery store call for you there's got to be a problem right there. Also people who don't have a phone are impossible to get ahold of when we call back to verify information which we do frequently there is no way of contacting them all these calls go unanswered because safety and financially it is just not worth it.

I'm sure a lot of you have noticed that we have had no choice but to increase prices. I had predicted a couple of years ago that this was going to be coming in the future and it certainly has as we all can feel the pain at the pump. In fact the morning new predicts and ever-increasing price hike on everything from food fuel and housing as I drive the streets of Skagit County I am saddened by the increase in homelessness and how people are expected to live. The sad facts of the homeless situation not only here but Across the Nation is that many of the homeless individuals are in the current situation sad as it may be due to lack of funding for homelessness Mental Health and drug addicted. And tell our government gets their act together and addresses these issues we all must take precautions when being among strangers that we have no history with taxi drivers included it is one thing to pass someone you don't know on the street but it is another thing to have them in the backseat sitting right behind you.
The no show, cancelation and abuse of drivers from the Sedro Woolley area has risen to 40%. This is forcing us to raise the minimum from these area to $50 unless deposit by cc is secured before cab is dispatched.
Like so many of you that I talk to on a daily basis from the backseat, I wish I had more hope, Staring down the abyss that is society today. I'm not jaded I like the rest of you would just like to see something positive to look forward to. Prices for running a small business are skyrocketing fuel insurance cost of vehicle maintenance. Not to mention of some people That cost I company like this to lose money through cancellations and no shows
